In what seems to be my never ending weight loss journey I have come to the conclusion that it is essential to eat better.
Now I know you are all sitting there saying: "Um, duh Kel!"
But I don't just mean low calorie or low fat, I mean BETTER.
I've
just recently given up store bought potato chips and french fries for
my own homemade versions. They are lower in fat but I also use to funky
chemicals or ingredients.
In the same vein I have traded in my
cooking spray for a Misto and it is kind of nice knowing that it is only
pure olive oil getting sprayed on my pans.
So about this blog...
I
lose weight better when I am fully prepared. When I have convenience
food that is all portioned out and ready to grab and go. Unfortunately
that usually means buying up
some frozen meals that contain tons of sodium and questionable
ingredients. I know there are better ones out there but I'm also cheap
and don't want to spend a fortune.
Heck, if I was rich I would sign
up for one of those food delivery programs that delivers fresh food to
my door on a daily basis. Yeah, unless I win the lottery anytime soon,
that ain't happening.
Enter, my new experiment!
Wouldn't it be
great if I could make my own frozen dinners from scratch? That way I
would know exactly what was in them, it would be easy to grab and go and
I wouldn't break the bank!
Then I started thinking of the logistics
of it all. It is not a short term commitment. In order to get the
point where I can just grab and go with enough food to make it worth my
while I will have to get to some serious cooking.
I like to cook. However, I have to be in the MOOD to cook and a lot of the time I am not...thus me wanting this
convenience food.
As it stands now I cook a couple of dishes on the
weekend and my husband and I eat them all week long. By the end of that
week, even if it was the greatest meal on the planet, I don't want to
eat it for at least another month.
The trick is going to be doubling
or tripling up on recipes when I make them and freezing most of them.
Eventually I will get a surplus of meals that will give us great
variety.
I know this isn't going to be easy but I think in the long
run if I stick to it it will be very valuable to my husband and I and
our health.
So why blog about it?
Well in looking for healthy
recipes I found that not a lot of my favorite sites mention whether or
not the meals can be frozen and reheated later. I mean, ALL food can be
but not everything tastes the same or has the same texture once it has
been frozen. Blogs are pretty much the way I remember things so I
thought this would help me
and hopefully eventually help someone else who might be looking to go
down the same path.
So there...that is why I created this little blog. I'm looking forward to this adventure!
